Aboriginal Art by Carol Black
Carol Black was born at Milikapiti on Melville Island.
She works from the Jilimara Art Centre and uses natural ochres on linen.
Jilimara design is originally drawn from body painting which accompanied the "pukumani(funeral) and "kulama" ( initiation/yam) ceremonies. Each artist paints the design reflecting their personal interpretation of the traditional Tiwi design or "jilimara" in an abstraction of lines, dots and form with beautiful balance and strength.
